In the world of martial arts and loads of its different forms, are these two entirely different, yet a little connected martial arts forms- Silat martial arts and Muay Thai techniques. Silat has its roots in the traditions and culture of Malaysia, while Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand. Muay Thai or kick boxing is a very difficult martial art form to acquire and become proficient in. It is now a defined sport, which is practiced throughout the world, with quarterly and yearly championships being taking place on both national and international levels. This martial art is the chief fighting and warfare sport, which has gained immense popularity all over the world. Silat on the other hand, is to not very difficult to learn and is perfect for every individual for self defense and safeguarding purposes. With over 100 forms and styles, Silat is a very diverse and unique martial art form, which is now practiced extensively all over the world. 

Muay Thai, apart from being called as kick boxing is also frequently regarded as the art of 8 limbs. In the past, where this self defense in Thailand was usually meant for entertainment of Kings and spectators, Silat was a passion of royal families and crowned heads. Silat skills were considered to be a royal trait, way back in Malaysia. This martial art being a fighting art for fighters, is broadly divided into two parts- minor techniques, also called as Luk Mai and major techniques, called as Mae Mai. Various techniques of kick boxing basically include punches, kicks and use of elbow. 

The system of Silat self defense moves is lay down is seven topics such as the bunga (the defensive and striking position), the jurus (the art of attack and defense), the belebat (the art of the defensive and counter attack movements), the tapak (the routine of step pattern movements), the buah (the self defense), the tempur seni (the art of self defense combat) and the tempur beladiri (the fast action of combat sparring). Use of weapons in advanced stages of Silat is very common, while in Muay Thai techniques it is not.
